Contested at every summer Olympics since 1896, Olympic gymnastics is broken down into two disciplines: artistic gymnastics and rhythmic gymnastics.
Artistic gymnastics typically involves the women's events of uneven parallel bars, balance beam, floor exercise, trampoline and vault. Men's events include floor exercise, pommel horse, still rings, vault, parallel bars, trampoline and high bar.
Rhythmic gymnastics on the other hand is competed only by women, involving the performance of five separate routines with the use of five apparatus - ball, ribbon, hoop, clubs, rope - on a floor area.
At the Youth Olympic Games, a total of 14 events for artistic gymnastics and two events for rhythmic gymnastics will be contested at the Bishan Sports Hall.
