One of the few events that combine the elements of grace, precision and finesse, fencing is one of only four sports that have been featured in every modern Olympic Games.
It was also the first to include recognised professionals in a medals competition after modern Olympic Games founder Pierre de Coubertin arranged special events for professional fencing "masters" in the original 1896 and 1900 competitions.
At the Youth Olympic Games, fencers will be competing for seven events in the three weapons categories: Individual foil (men and women), individual épée (men and women), individual sabre (men and women), and mixed gender team events. These events will be held at the International Convention Centre.
